19. The existing scales provide for the payment of

extra Residential Allowances to Legal officers acting as

Registrar and Land Officer and to Educational officers

acting as Senior Master. we think it preferable that

these extra allowances, £100 and £50 respectively, and

the similar allowance of 240 per annum proposed for Senior

Mistresses should be differentiated from the ordinary

"cost of living" or "residential" allowances and called

"Duty Allowances".
